How to refinish a wood deck, including:
- stripping off the old stain (optional)
- applying a deck brightener (optional) such as DeckBright
- re-staining
For staining, I used the following supplies:
- Stain. Thompsons Water Seal Deck & House Oil Stain Semi-Transparent, Model Number: 16331 | Menards® SKU: 5530258, Color Variation: Cedartone, $16.97 ($10.97 after $6.00 mail-in rebate, limit of up to 5 cans). It is always a good idea to buy the stain when promotion is offered. Link: http://bit.ly/16Z89Za
- Stain applicator. Wagner Deck Mate Deck Stain Pad 0284065, Sku: 5615718, Model: 0284065, $15.98. Link: http://bit.ly/16Z8bQX
This works well but drips and you need another applicator to smooth the stain. A brush is also needed to for the edges of the deck.
- Woodmates 9" Standard Stain Applicator, Model Number: 0330 | Menards® SKU: 5610346, $12.99 (link: http://bit.ly/16Z8xa8) and Metal Extension Painting Pole, Model Number: 997680480 | Menards® SKU: 5613081, $2.95. Link: http://bit.ly/16Z8gnH
- Handcraft Stain Brush, Model Number: 991590600 | Menards® SKU: 5610139, $15.97. Link: http://bit.ly/16Z8D1E
- Metal Paint Tray, Model Number: 11764290 | Menards® SKU: 5619577, $2.89. Link: http://bit.ly/16Z8FX7
